Home remedies for nausea

Nausea is a common occurrence nowadays. It is that sick feeling that makes one uneasy and may at times translate to vomiting. It normally occurs due to some conditions like dehydration, motion sickness, food poisoning, side effects of some medicines and even acid reflux. Other conditions which may make one nauseous include early pregnancy and chemotherapy and radiotherapy for cancer patients.

One does not have to pop some pills every time they feel nauseated. The following are home remedies to help you get rid of this feeling.


This is the most common ingredient to help with nausea. It is available in many forms including ginger ale, ginger tea, ginger capsules and even the ginger root itself. Ginger has some volatile oils together with some phenol compounds with a strong smell which enhances the production of digestion enzymes. These enzymes help in neutralizing the stomach acids hence alleviating the nauseating feeling. One may eat the ginger root, but the recommended way to take it is by taking ginger tea.


The smell of this citrus fruit is what helps in calming that queasy feeling since it calms the stomach. In addition to that, lemon helps in balancing the body’s Ph. This helps in dealing with nausea caused by bloating, heartburn and a gassy stomach. One can suck a freshly cut lemon till they feel some relief. The lemon juice may also be mixed with honey and the mixture taken to offer immediate relief. This mixture of honey and lemon has got many other health benefits which will benefit your body.


Peppermint helps in taming a stomach upset hence getting rid of that nauseating feeling. This is attributed to that fresh minty scent from the peppermint leaves. Peppermint also has some antispasmodic properties which help in soothing an inflamed lining of the stomach which also helps in getting rid of cramps. Peppermint oil may also be used by dabbing some of it on the gums or by making peppermint tea using dry leaves and taking it while it is warm.


This is a type of herb that helps in the prevention of buildup of gas in the stomach. This is because it has carminative properties. It helps in dealing with nausea caused by flatulence and even early pregnancy. One can chew the seeds or make tea with a tablespoon of the fennel seeds then take it when it is still warm. Lemon juice may also be added to it.

Apple cider vinegar helps in digestion of food hence also able to treat other stomach related issues. The vinegar is mixed with a glass of water and honey and drank. Remember the vinegar may have an awful smell and taste, but this is manageable compared to the benefits that one can get from taking it.
